It’s a big day at Razzers today, that’s Market Rasen for those that don’t call it Razzers! Summer Plate day is a great day out for all the family so get on down and enjoy the fare.
In recent times, there has been a very simple formula to solving the Summer Plate at 3.30 pm – back a Peter Bowen trained horse. And today is no exception as the welsh maestro has been aiming Book Em Danno at this race all season. He has had 3 runs over course and distance and won all 3. Why change a winning formula?
The 2.55 at Market Rasen is also a valuable race – the £20,000 Summer Hurdle – and this is another intriguing contest. What struck me the most about this race was the number of front runners there are in it. I counted at least 5 that like to be up there forcing the pace. That is good news for our selection Discovery Bay. This horse can pull early in it’s races and not settle, but I don’t see that as a worry in this. His form last season when 2nd to Willows Saviour gives him an outstanding chance and he looks good value to run a stormer.
Over at Newbury, the Super Sprint at 3.50 pm is always a contest worth a few quid. The stats are beginning to mount up now for this and they are strongly suggesting that Harrys Dancer will be waltzing away with the prize (yes I know, corny wasn’t it).
Sticking with the dancing theme, I will also suggest a bet on Waltzing Matilda in the 4.40pm at the Curragh. This one ran a great race in the Jersey at Royal Ascot and though I expect it to improve further when running over 1m, there is no doubt that class could carry it through today and get a win.
