Number 4 – The 32Red Cup (Stewards Cup)

By | August 1, 2014

Last but not least this week is the most exciting race on the list of big 4 handicaps, The 32Red Cup (Stewards Cup) at 3.50pm. A 6f whirlwind down the straight but undulating rollercoaster that is Goodwood.

I must apologise for my absence yesterday which was due to family reasons. Nonetheless, I’m back, refreshed and firing on all cylinders. We haven’t had too much luck in recent times so I’ve left no stone unturned in my quest to break the walls down and get those floodgates to open again.

Although there are a whole host of possible improvers in this race, I prefer proven ability in this type of handicap and as such there are 2 horses that stand out as worthwhile bets: Boomerang Bob and Seeking Magic.

Boomerang Bob has slid down the handicap in recent times and is now on an unquestionably good mark.

At Ascot in June he finished fifth in the Wokingham which is normally a good guide. In that race, Alben Star  finished slightly in front of Bob but at today’s weights, they should finish together. Yet Alben Star is 8/1 and Bob is 25/1.

Again using Alben Star as a form line, he ran against DiscussiontoFollow at the Curragh and would be roughly 6lb better in here with that rival, which suggests Bob is well in with that rival too. And yet again DiscussiontoFollow is 8/1 and Bob is 25/1.

I like the fact that Boomerang Bob has gone under the radar and is available at 3 times the price of horses he should be finishing next to.

He also has a good draw in 10 and there should be enough pace around him to carry him to the last 2 furlongs, before hopefully kicking on in the 32Red Cup (Stewards Cup) .

Seeking Magic takes less explaining.

The best thing about him is the fact that he currently trades at 16/1. That is a very generous price when you consider 3 things.

1. He is best on downhill tracks such as Epsom and Goodwood.

2. He won the consolation race on this card last year.

3. The horse he beat in that race is Take Cover who yesterday won the Group 2 sprint on the course.

These 3 things make Seeking Magic a really interesting contender for the 32Red Cup (Stewards Cup).

He has a high draw which will place him against the near side rail and with Ashpan Sam over on his side, there should be enough pace for him to get cover.
