It’s Eurovision time again. Oh how I enjoy the madness, the variety and most of all the alcohol that goes along with watching it! It is a highlight of the television year and we always try to find a speculative punt.
So to help you, I’ll give you 3 bits of advice. 1. Bet on something that sings later in the evening normally from 15 onwards, as no-one remembers anything before then! 2. An English song, i.e countries singing in their own language are no-nos as no-one knows what the hell they are singing about! 3. A country that isn’t in crisis, an obvious one as it costs a fortune to host it and war torn countries or Greece just can’t do it.
So there you are. Can’t wait for the usual “Y O Mooni Nil pwan” Who is singing for us now? That’s right I don’t know either, who cares? On with the show.
Down to the action today and the big fields represent a chance to get stuck in to some nice bets.
At Haydock, I have backed Trackmate at both Cheletenham and Aintree this season and on both occasions he was withdrawn. I don’t know why. So hopefully if all is right today, we shall finally see him given the chance to fulfill my expectations of him. A big field, flat track and 3m should be perfect for him. Let’s jump on board.
My 2 least favourite people in racing Paul the fat man Nicholls and Sam Twisitng Davies (oops meant Twiston) combine with the best bet of the day in Vibrato Valtat in the Swinton. Though I can’t stand either of them, they will be looking to cement their new found partnership with a big race success and this horse has all the right credentials for the Swinton. A flat track and good gallop are the requisites for him. Will get both today.
The last race worth a look today is the Victoria Cup at Ascot. Massive field, imponderable draw and rain forecast! Why do we bother? Ha.
No-one at this stage in the season knows where the best part of the Ascot track is, not even R. Hughes, so let’s hope the sheep I mean jockeys don’t try to be clever and second guess. This is the first problem we face in this race.
I have read 2 other articles today which stated that the best place to be was 1. High and 2. Low as that was where the pace is. So they can’t both be correct unless there is pace all over the track in which case, jockeys can just sit and ride the race.
So who do I fancy. I am putting up 2 in this as I feel like it. Dont Call Me loves this track, the trip and ground are fine and he is now 10lbs lower than when an excellent 4th in the Hunt Cup last season. Massive chance. Gramercy is a huge price on his best form, some of which is here. Spencer on board seems to ride this course well and his odds are too big to let him go unbacked. The problem with him is how inconsistent he is. But it’s a chance worth taking at the price.
