Distractions

By | September 9, 2013

Distractions, distractions, distractions. Poor old Mr Hulmes just can’t seem to catch a break at the minute. Whilst he is doing his best Dad of the Year act, he is getting distracted from the business of backing winners. This week, Mr H was picking the girls up from Dance class – on a Saturday afternoon can you believe? – and completely forgot to back Excellent Result at Ascot. When he realised what time it was, he had no signal on his phone and when arrivng home, had no money in his bet365 account to place the bet. Oh and you know what happens, the horse wins at 14s. Distractions from buisness costs Mr H every time.

Now another time, Mr H had had a busy night on the town and was due to place a team bet on the 2.05 at York as it was his day off. Hoewever, the evening’s activities caught up with him at roughly 12.45 pm, so with an hour to spare, Mr H thought he’d have 40 winks! This distraction caused him to fall asleep unitl 2.10 pm – yes the horse won at 9s! He is easily distracted Mr H, but it should be noted that he has been nominated for Dad of the Year for 18 years on the trot. Marvellous! So what should Mr H do? Not take the girls to Dance? Ensure he has put his bet on in time? Have money in his account? It’s tough when you miss a winner but someitmes that happens to us.

A quick look back to the weekend and we didn’t do too badly with a winner, 2 placed and 2 non runners. Gordon Lord Byron was well backed and the result was never in doubt from halfway. This is a serious horse given the right conditions and with the Jockey of the Moment, J. Murtagh, riding out of his skin, everything fell right on the day.

Fortunately for us, the Gump didn’t get wind of any of the selections and our Gump free weekend helped towards a profit. Tony the Bookie is feeling pleased with himself as he still owns the shop whilst Helmet can’t believe he missed all the double figure prices for Lauren in Celebrity BB. And for those concerned about The Good Lady, she got steak and a nice bottle of Prosecco for her Saturday tea thanks to Gordon Lord Byron, so she was in a very generous mood Saturday Night! Ahem.

Now this week has some good racing for us to get stuck in to with the Doncaster Leger meeting starting on Wednesday, so I’ll be blogging some tips each day and let’s hope we have a bit more luck. As ever, I’ll be using our featured bookmakers to put my bets on with and I’ll be scouring for the best prices before I put the tips on here.
