Stats run through for 6 day declarations

The big day is drawing closer and closer, so I thought it would be apt to look at the stats to whittle down the remaining contenders. Over the next few days I’ll introduce different stats to help us end up with a shortlist on Saturday.

We’ll start today with 2 stats to help us narrow this field down. Firstly we will take the ratings one. The last 10 winners have been rated between 137 and 157. So looking at the race, this doesn’t help us a great deal, but it does end the chances of Tidal Bay, Long Run and Hunt Ball.

Next using the table we have previoulsy published, we will use the age stat. Over the last 10 years, no horse aged under 9 has won the race. Do you think this will continue? I do. So now we lose; Triolo D’alene, Rocky Creek, Double Seven, Buckers Bridge, Our Father, Vintage Star, Kruzhlinin, Twirling Magnet and Vesper Bell.

So by using these 2 stats, we have ended the chances of 9 of the top 40 in the Handicap. Tomorrow, I’ll be looking at form and hoping we can glean information from the stats to whittle this field down further. Hopefully by Saturday, we will have a working shortlist.
