Merry Christmas everyone

Merry Christmas to all the Generalites out there. And a happy New Year too, before I get caught up in imbibing too much Christmas spirit.

A quick catch up is in order after my 2 week absences. Firstly I took the family for a day out in a bid to capture the Dad of the Year title off Mr Hulmes, something that hasn’t happened since Bill Roche was feeling like a young boy! And then secondly there was much indulgence of champagne after the team had received great news on 2 personnel. That’s for the future.

We nearly pulled off a most unlikely double with our reality TV selections, as firstly Kian stormed to victory in I’m a Celebrity and then Nicholas lost out in the Xfactor final. No-one in the history of TV betting has come so close to pulling off the Christmas Double. I think next year the bookies are going to market this alongside the Spring and Autumn ones.

On to today and the news of how to cover all your Christmas expenses. I have been watching Chris Pea Green closely these past 2 seasons and am convinced that this horse needs certain conditions to be at his most potent. 1. Soft ground. 2. Big field. 3. Right hand flat track. He runs at Ascot (right hand flat track) on the soft (perfect) in the Ladbroke Hurdle (20 runner field). This should be run at a good pace and this will be the day for this horse. So I advise all the Generalites to have a good wager on Chris Pea Green at 14s withbet365 in the 3.35pm at Ascot.

And if that isn’t enough of a Christmas present for you then help yourself to 2 Venetia Williams Crackers.

Houblon Des Obeaux is back at the scene of his best win, Ascot, and anyone who reads this column will know that I rate Ascot as a horses for courses type of course. As such, I like to follow previous winners when they come back. On that form, he is the equal of the likely fav Triolo D’alene, the courageous Hennessy winner and should be backed accordingly. Take the currently available 7/2 with bet365 in the3.0pm at Ascot for Houblon Des Obeaux to reverse Henessy form.

Over at Haydock, Emperors Choice looks primed to run a big race after his recent pipe opener and this course should play to his strengths – being up with the pace and having abundant stamina – and as it doesn’t look like the greatest Tommy Whittle Chase of all time, I have no hesitation in selecting Emperor’s Choice at 11/2 with bet365 in the 2.05pm at Haydock

I’ll once again take this opportunity to wish you and your kin a very Merry Christmas, and hope that you enjoy the most festive of times.
