All the stars aligned

A quick recap on the weekend’s action to start this week. What a performance by Treve in the Arc. Helmet had helped himself to the 9/2 and was sitting pretty throughout the race. The turn of foot this horse showed in the last half mile was simply scintillating and with plans to keep her in training next year, this is an exciting horse to look forward to watching. Moonlight Cloud was similarly breathtaking in winning the Foret and this is a genuine superstar of the turf, having won Group 1s over 6f, 7f and 1 mile, quite exceptional. It’s been a joy to watch this great mare over the last 4 seasons but let’s not forget that she was no match for the great Black Caviar at Ascot, a performance by the winner that wasn’t given it’s due respect in my opinion.

Betting wise for us the high point was when all the stars aligned for Heavens Guest. As I previewd on Saturday, this horse had been unlucky with it’s draw position on it’s last 2 outings and was therefore overpriced at 16s. All those who helped themselves to this double figure price were handsomely rewarded when late jockey booking R. Moore swept home on the heavily backed winner with an SP of 9s, nearly half of the advised price. Draw positions are something that I like to look at retrospectively and I have a long list of horses that I believe couldn’t win big races from their starting stall. When these run, I’ll be advising my customers to take advantage.

The jumps season is right around the corner now and I’m pleased to say that I have a long list of experts to help us make the most of the winter months. Firstly there is Mr Hulmes himself who is a Cheltenham Guru, then there is the Duke of Fluckenburgh who knows everything about the Northern jumps scene. We also have Sheepy G, the only white rapping national hunt tipster you’ll ever meet and finally we have a secretive operative known only as the Hunter Chase man, who will disclose information to us when this particular section starts after Christmas. Anyway, we have lots to look forward to and let’s hope we can keep those profits rolling
