Wednesday 11th March and Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival, so let’s get serious and take on these fields with some big priced horses.

There is no way that the bookies can have another start like yesterday and they will be looking to get some money back in the satchels today. The Wednesday is traditionally a good day for the bookies after a Tuesday hammering and they will be looking to get some short priced ones turned over. Heading the list will be Nicholas Canyon, Don Poli and Sprinter Sacre.

So what are we betting on today? First up the RSA Chase and I’m sticking to my season long conviction here and suggesting that we wager on Apache Jack to finally show his true colours. This horse has all the attributes to win an RSA, he just needs to put them all together. Last season, he came to life here when placing in the Albert Bartlett hurdle. That showed that stamina would be his forte, his trainer says good ground is necessary for him and she, like me, is convinced we haven’t seen the best of him yet. Well here’s hoping that we are both correct!

The Coral Cup is the usual minefield for us, but I’m hopeful that I’ve got a couple of decent shots to get stuck in to. Un Atout was my Festival nap 2 years ago, but something was clearly amiss with him, as , after performing poorly here, he was off the track for nearly 2 years. If he has rekindled his novice form, then he could be thrown in here.

Secondly Baradari. A nice light campaign including two excellent runs, suggests that this has been a target for him. And why not, last season he stayed on up the hill in impressive fashion to capture 5th place in the Fred Winter, the trainer acknowledging that the trip was too short for him. That thought was again in her mind after a staying on third at Ascot to Sign of Victory, a decent horse. On his last start, he finally ran over a longer trip of 19f at Ascot, and he needed all of that to conquer Lyvius. I can see him coming with a storming finish up this hill. How exciting!

And to top the day off, we are waiting for the Bumper and are backing Pylonthepressure. Anyone who has ever been to Naas, will know how steep that straight is. In fact if you stand by the parade ring at the top of the hill, you can’t actually see the bottom, so steep is the gradient. This horse completed his Festival warm up by romping up that hill beating a well fancied horse in the process. Cheltenham looks tailor made for him and him for Cheltenham.
