Premier League preview 14/9/14 – Man Utd v QPR

By | September 12, 2014

New-look Manchester United welcome newly promoted QPR to Old Trafford on Sunday with Louis Van Gaal still in search of his first win as United boss.

QPR find themselves above the 13-time Premier League champions in 12th place thanks to their 1-0 win over Sunderland before the international break.

After an opening day defeat to surprise package Swansea, the Red Devils have struggled to consecutive draws against Sunderland and Burnley away from home.

Despite United’s stuttering start, they’re 2/7 on to dispatch QPR in Sunday’s 16:00 kick-off, while the Hoops are 9/1 to record their first win against Manchester United since 1992.

All the talk has been about United’s new look front line which along with the gala addition of Angel Di Maria, Van Gaal managed to procure the services of Radamel Falcao on transfer deadline day until the end of the season on-loan.

Falcao is undoubtedly a world-class striker who when added to the already potent pair of Robin Van Persie and skipper Wayne Rooney, makes for potentially the most fearsome frontline in the Premier League.

The Colombian hit man has netted 104 goals in 139 league outings since swapping River Plate for Europe six years ago. Much has been made of United’s lack of defensive credentials in light of veteran departures, however their attacking ensemble features Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia on top of the aforementioned array of stars – goals should not be hard to come by at Old Trafford.

Harry Redknapp’s QPR have made a humble start on their return to the top-flight, but some auspicious signings have rid the fans memory of the insipid panic buys that riddled their last campaign in England’s top-tier.

The London outfit have conducted good business by signing young, English players like Alex McCarthy, Jordan Mutch, Jack Robinson and Steven Caulker whilst accompanying them with an experienced head like ex-Man United man Rio Ferindand.

Leroy Fer and Sandro have come in as combative yet classy centre midfielders to give QPR the strong spine needed to survive and thrive in the Premier League.

A lot of pressure will fall on Charlie Austin to convert his Football League goalscoring prowess into the top-flight following Loic Remy’s departure to Chelsea, but after getting off the mark via his winner against Sunderland he is 10/1 with Ladbrokes to hit the net first in Sunday’s encounter.

Falcao is the favourite to open the scoring and thus his account on his debut at 3/1, followed by partners Van Persie (10/3) and Rooney (7/2).

United enter this fixture having won each of their last five league games against Rangers, and have never lost in the 12 top-flight fixtures between the sides, winning 10 of them and drawing two.

Redknapp’s men will be hoping to set a new precedent against the Red Devils like so many teams have managed to do over the last year.
