Next time

Mr Hulmes once told me he had a perfect system for backing horses. Now no-one can have a perfect system I know, but well I’ll explain. According to Mr H. any horse I back, is worth backing next time it runs. See, I don’t like to make excuses for the horses I back if they get beat and so I am not emotionally attached to any of my selections as it clouds your judgement. So Mr. H pounces the next time these horse run and enjoys a profit. Why am I telling you this? Well it occurred again on Saturday with Angels Will Fall, the 16-1 winner of the Portland. I’d tipped this one up at York the time before but completely missed it on Saturday, only to receive a text of the great man saying “Thanks!” Typical.

When I started betting a long time ago, there were certain courses that you could forgive a horse for performing poorly at: Epsom, Chester and Goodwood would be the 3 that spring to mind. Each of these courses is unique in their configuration and with the twists and turns, they suit certain types of nimble, agile horses. However, in recent years 3 more big courses have become courses at which you can forgive selections for running poorly. These are Haydock, Ascot and York. For some reason, these courses are becoming specialist ones. On the face of it, they shouldn’t be producing strange results, but they do. Something about these 3 are affecting horses’ abilities to run well there. Still, if you do back a horse and it under performs at one of these, then don’t worry and as Mr H says, back it next time!

Some good races coming up this week for us with the Kerry National on Wednesday and the Ayr Bronze/Silver/Gold cups on Saturday. All should provide excellent betting opportunities and I’ll be posting tomorrow for the Listowel race.

Just a quick note as it’s raining, make sure you have invested in our Ante-Post horse Chapter Seven for the Cambridgeshire it is still available at 25s with any of these bookmakers bet365SkybetWinner and BetVictor.
