Liverpool are top of the Premier League!

Do my eyes deceive me? Liverpool are top of the Premier League!

Okay, let’s get the honest truth out there first of all: I support Everton. That’s “unbeaten Everton who recently beat Chelsea” by the way. But really? Really?! Liverpool are actually top of the Premier League?

I’ve checked with my nurse and she has confirmed it. We’re four games in and – even without Gnasher (aka Luis Suarez) – Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top, one (lesser) half of the Premier League’s only unbeaten city.

Now then, I declared my allegiances from the off but I have to say, the Reds haven’t really been that good, have they? They scraped past Stoke and Villa 1-0, needing heroics from Simon Mignolet between the posts to do so, before needing extra time to see off Notts County. Next up Man United came to Anfield and David Moyes managed to do for the Red Devils what he was so adept at doing for the Toffees – leaving the famous ground with little but regret.

Last time out Jonjo Shelvey suffered severe club-bi-polar, scoring for new side Swansea, then laying on two goals for his former club Liverpool before creating an equaliser for Michu (who, incidentally was one blank away from being dropped from my Fantasy Team). The game ended 2-2 and whilst Liverpool were good for an hour they could easily have lost and the stats suggest it was the Welsh side who had the better of the game.

Next up for Brendan Rodgers’ team is Southampton at home, followed by Sunderland away, the game for which Suarez will again become eligible. It’s conceivable (though barely believable) that the Reds could have 16 points from their opening six games and a clear lead at the top of the table.

Sorry, that’s all for now, I need to go and have a lie down and perhaps a whisky or three, I’ve come over all faint. Is this a nightmare?

Oh, if you’re interested, Liverpool are 10/1 with Ladbrokes for the title… but I’d personally give you 12/1 because it ain’t gonna happen!
