Now the drugs don’t work

The dry spell here in General Towers continues as every horse I back runs as though it has a curse! It’s not just the horses that are afflicted though, 2 local businesses who have been established for years, have both closed near me after I started to frequent them. And only last week, i met up with an old friend whose dog has lived comfortably with epilepsy for the past 8 years, but yes you’ve guessed it, 1 afternoon with me and the dog has died! I ain’t even joking. And to top it all off Joey helmet is now odds on for I’m a celebrity and is the only thing stopping my gamble on Kian being successful. Now if only I could get to the jungle and shake his hand…

On to the day in hand. I love it when 1 commentator or supposed genius comes up with a statement and all the other helmets jump on it. Last week we had the fact that Triolo D’alene is a future GN winner, er no it isn’t! This week one of the geniuses has said that Haydock won’t suit Bob’s Worth, erm yes it will. Perhaps no-one told it’s trainer and he is clueless or perhaps he isn’t? This horse has won first time out every season and has never been beaten going left handed over fences. It’s too short for me at 9/4 but it is a champion horse and I don’t expect it to get beat today.

Ascot does present us with 2 betting opportunities at decent prices. First on the catwalk is Fiddlers Bid in the 1.00pm. His trainer is in fine form and though backing novice chasers is littered with issues, this is a winning point to pointer so can clearly jump. First time up last season he ran into Southfield Theatre and that horse has a lofty rating suggesting there could still be room for Fiddlers Bid to improve more over this trip. Take the 8s with bet365 for Fiddlers Bid in the Ascot 1.00pm. In the 3.15pm take the 5s with bet365for Lancetto to reverse form with Drumshambo.

Over at Haydock, the ground will be testing and stamina is the key word. The big handicap hurdle is always a good race and I like last year’s winner Trustan Times. I put him up on here a couple of weeks ago and he was a touch disappointing against Tidal Bay. But that race should put him spot on for this. He won off a 6lb lower mark last year, but beat a subsequent Cheltenham winner in Holywell easily, so the rating rise shouln’t inconvenience him. We know he likes the track, trip and ground and looks a good bet. Go to Skybet and get the 10s for Trustan Times 2.25pm. Finally in the finale (you like that?) I’m putting up Mac Aeda. First time blinkers may help him concentrate for longer periods. We know he stays, likes the ground and has good form over the course. I’m expecting him to be prominent from flagfall and to grind his way down the straight. So jump on board and take 7s with William Hill for Mac Aeda in the 3.35pm.

I’ve just saluted the rabbit and cut off a magpie’s foot, think that should lift the curse. I’ve got my fingers crossed and will be avoiding ladders today. Now I’ll just have a quick shave whilst I’m holding this mirror… oops!
