Big six at top of the Premier League

By | September 20, 2013

Four weeks into the campaign and the top of the table already has a familiar look, with the “big” six clubs occupying what they view as their rightful places. With Everton up to ninth after a fine win over Chelsea last weekend it won’t be long before the top seven we expect to see come May have all jostled themselves into their positions, admittedly with a little reordering along the way.

As it stands the “second tier” of teams – Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs – actually lead from the supposed genuine title contenders, City, United and Chelsea. With Liverpool facing Southampton at home this weekend, Arsenal welcoming Stoke to North London and Spurs travelling to Cardiff there is unlikely to be too much change at the very top.

Putting those three teams in a treble would provide a return of almost £40 from a £10 stake with bet365 whilst if you throw in Chelsea to beat Fulham that goes to over £50. Spurs won’t find it easy in Wales though, as City discovered, whilst Stoke have started well and could give Arsenal a scare or two.

As a single bet Brendan Rodgers’ men are worth considering at 4/7 with bet365 and others, whilst Everton, who have a superb record at West Ham, can also deliver for Merseyside at 7/5 with Ladbrokes.

By far the biggest clash of the weekend is the Manchester derby, an opportunity for neutrals up and down the country to enjoy a football feast or vocalise a hatred for one or both of these sides that many love to detest.

City are warm favourites at 6/5 with bet365 but we think this could very easily go either way. Last season both league clashes were won by the away side and both featured plenty of goals. With the attacking strength of both sides, especially United with Wayne Rooney and RVP both in fine fettle, backing both teams to score is a top bet at 7/10 with BetVictor or a shade more with Betfair.
