The international break has been and gone and we can – thankfully – get back to the far more exciting action to be found in the Premier League.
Liverpool have had their best start since the 1994-95 season and are currently sitting pretty at the top of the tree after winning their three matches, all by 1-0 scorelines and all with goals scored by Daniel Sturridge. The young striker has found his feet in the absence of the suspended Luis Suarez, though he withdrew injured from the England squad and is a doubt for his side’s Monday night trip to Swansea (who won 2-0 at West Brom last time out). As such we fancy the Swans will get a result at the Liberty, and they look well worth backing at either 12/5 in the outright market or 7/10 with Winner with a +0.5 goal advantage in the Asian Handicap.
Champions Man United have collected only four points from their opening three fixtures after losing out to Liverpool at Anfield in their last match. David Moyes will be glad of a relatively easy fixture as Crystal Palace visit the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday, and while it is a potential banana skin, we fancy the home side will assert their authority with a solid win. Backing United to win by three or more goals looks the way to go at betting odds of 13/8 with Winner.
The early evening kick off on Saturday sees Moyes’ former club Everton host Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in a match that is tough to call. Despite the Toffees having secured the services of Romelu Lukaku on loan, he is ineligible to play against his parent club in this one and their other striking options have hardly been prolific of late.
Chelsea, meanwhile, failed in their efforts to prize Wayne Rooney away from United and had to settle for the signing of Samuel Eto’o to sure up their somewhat misfiring frontline. As such, despite both sides having plenty of midfielders capable of finding the net, we think both sides will be eager to keep things tight and backing under 2.5 goals looks a very good bet at odds of 4/5 with Ladbrokes.
