How You Doing? An Ante-Post Special

How you doing? For those old enough to remember those words made famous by Joey in Friends, they will always have a special place, as many of us have used them whilst chatting up a member of the opposite sex.

However after Tuesday 10th March, the answer to the question will hopefully be, Doing Fine!

Yes, Doing Fine is the horse in question for our Ante-Post special. This 7yo trained by Rebecca Curtis is bred to stay and jump, being by Presenting, a major influence on stamina in National Hunt Racing. He has one entry at the Cheltenham festival and that is in the 4 mile National Hunt Chase.

Rebecca Curtis has had 3 Cheltenham winners previously and they are all aligned to stamina laden novice races. Teaforthrree won the 4 mile National Hunt Chase, O’Faiolins Boy won the stamina sapping RSA Novices Chases over 3 miles and 2 fulrongs, whilst At Fisher’s Cross won the novice staying hurdle championship, the Albert Bartlett Hurdle. Clearly we have a trainer who knows how to get the most out of young horses, in particular when stamina is involved.

So to the case for Doing Fine. Firstly the trainer as outlined above. Secondly he jumps well and stays well as shown when beating Carole’s Destrier over 3 miles on soft at Ffos Llas earlier in the season. In fact if you look through his form you will see the words “stayed on stoutly” littered throughout. Additionally, his trainer believes he will improve when meeting some nice Spring ground, as most of the progeny of Presenting do. Lastly he is a huge price given the previous factors.

This race may turn out to be quite hot with Sego Success and Very Wood both destined for it, but I’m more than hopeful of a big run from Doing Fine and believe he is all set to out run his price.
